Warren County experienced a tremendous spike in unintentional overdoses and overdose deaths from 2013 to 2017. The vast majority of those were opiate related meaning they involved pharmaceuticals, or more likely heroin and fentanyl. We experienced significant decreases in unintentional overdose deaths in 2018 with that trend continuing in 2019.
Although overdoses are still occurring and an unacceptable rate, these numbers continue to improve. The aggressive enforcement of drug trafficking offenders must remain a priority as we seek to target sources of supply. Our unwavering support of education and prevention as well as treatment options for our addicted population will continue.
